Sol-Gel Science: The Physics and Chemistry of Sol-Gel Processing by J. Brinker, Sol-Gel Science presents the physical and chemical principles of the sol-gel process at a level suitable for graduate students and practitioners in the field. This book defines sol-gel rather broadly as the preparation of ceramic materials by preparation of a sol, gelation of the sol, and removal of the solvent. The sol may be produced from inorganic or organic precursors (e.g., nitrates or alkoxides) and may consist of dense oxide particles of polymeric clusters. Brinker expands the definition of ceramics to include organically modified materials, often called ORMOSILs or CERAMERs. The emphasis of the author' treatment is on the science, rather than the technology, of sol-gel processing. Although a chapter on applications is included, more detailed discussion is available in proceedings of conferences and in the recent collection of articles, Sol-Gel Technology for thin films, Fibers, Preforms, Electronics, and Specialty Shapes (Noyes, Park Ridge, N.J., 1988), edited by professor Lisa Klein.

Gel extraction - In molecular biology, gel extraction or gel isolation is a technique where viable DNA is eluted (extracted) from an agarose gel following agarose gel electrophoresis in order to isolate a specific band. To perform this feat, UV light is shone on the gel to illuminate all the ethidium bromide-stained DNA. Difference gel electrophoresis - Difference gel electrophoresis is a form of gel electrophoresis where up to three different protein samples can be labeled with fluorescent dyes (for example Cy3, Cy5, Cy2) prior to two-dimensional electrophoresis. After the gel electrophoresis, the gel is scanned with the excitation wavelength of each dye one after the other. Agarose gel - Agarose gel is a polysaccharide obtained from agar that is the most widely used medium for gel electrophoresis procedures. Color gel - A Color Gel, Color Filter, or simply Gel is a translucent or transparent coloured material that is used in theatre to colour light. Modern gels are thin sheets of polycarbonate or polyester, placed in front of a lighting fixture in the path of the beam.

Bipedal locomotion is extremely inefficient, and many animals can outrun human beings for short periods of time; such animals, however, are inefficient radiators of heat, and cannot run for long periods of time, and must therefore have an efficient mechanism for radiating body heat. Hair Hair is most commonly that outgrowth of the body from hair on the body from hair on the head. The hair of non-human animal species is commonly referred to as fur. These links are very robust; for example, virtually intact hair has been recovered from ancient Egyptian tombs. Upright posture, which exposes less surface area of the head (perhaps to protect against too much radiation from the amino acid cysteine.
